iPhone Wallpaper

"The Loop" iPhone WallpaperI took the plunge and got an iPhone about 2 weeks ago. I was already with AT&T, and had been for 4 years, so I knew what I was getting myself into as far as AT&T’s network is concerned. My previous phone, a Nokia 6126, had suddenly developed a problem with both screens, where there was no display other than what looked like analog TV static. I couldn’t see to dial from the phone book, I couldn’t see who was calling me, and I couldn’t read or respond to text messages. My contract was up anyway, and I was eligible for a phone upgrade. So I went down to the AT&T Store and got the slightly cheaper previous generation iPhone 3G. There’s a few features I don’t have, but thanks to the iPhone OS 3.0 update, I have a number of them.

Skyline wallpaperSo in the time that I’ve had my iPhone, I’ve really become smitten. I’ve downloaded and tried out many different free apps available in the iTunes App Store. There are a few that I bought that I knew I couldn’t do with out, including Buster: The Chicago Bus Tracker, an iPhone interface to the CTA’s bus tracker website ($0.99 on iTunes App Store).

I wasn’t happy with the default wallpaper selections provided by Apple. Being that a lot of things are unchangeable, I thought I wouldn’t be able to add my own. But thankfully I was mistaken! Within minutes I was able to find the screen pixel dimensions, and where to put the files so they’ll sync to the phone.

I’m sharing three of my custom iPhone wallpapers with you for free! Click here to download, or click the download link below.

  1. First, you’ll need to enable photo syncing in iTunes.
  2. Put these files in /Users/<yourusername>/Pictures on Mac, or C:\Documents and Settings\<yourusername>\My Documents\My Pictures on Windows XP, or C:\Users\<yourusername>\Documents\Pictures on Windows Vista.
  3. Sync your phone.
  4. Your wallpaper files will show up under Photo Library instead of Photo Roll. Just go into Settings, and set your wallpaper to your favorite file!
