Chicagoland is getting hammered by thunderstorms, heavy rain, and even some reports of large hail. In the city, the loop and north sides seem to be getting hit particularly hard. Out here on the southwest side in the Archer Heights neighborhood (near Midway) we haven’t seen any rain or hail, but large dark ominous clouds have been passing over us.
On Twitter, people have been posting weather updates from all over Chicagoland, from the suburbs to the loop. There appears to be some heavy flooding, up to 7ft, at the underpass at Foster and Lake Shore Drive, as CBS 2 has put out the call for anyone in the area to get pictures or video.
If you’re in Chicagoland, pay attention to your surroundings. If you’re going to be out driving, don’t drive through standing water, because it may be deeper than you think, causing your car to stall and flood. If the sky looks ominous, or there’s heavy lightning, get indoors to safety! Be careful out there.
UPDATES:
- Golf-ball sized hail has been reported near O’Hare Airport on the far northwest side.
- NewsRadio 780 WBBM knocked off air by lightning bolt. “No idea when we’ll be back” reports the station.
- RedEye posts readers’ storm pictures proving there’s beauty in chaos.
- CBS 2 posts viewer storm pictures from all over the area.
- 1:01pm, the skies are lightening up down here in Archer Heights, seems the worst may have just blown over to the north of us.
