Handy utilities

September 23rd, 2006

I made a comment to James tonight while out on the porch smoking a cigarette about a utility I had many years ago on my old Mac Centris (that didn’t have an HD activity light) that turned the Scroll Lock key into an HD activity light. It was a rather lightweight little extension under MacOS 7.5.5. We both wondered if there was such a thing for Windows. I doubted it, but he came in and looked it up and found one right away.

If you run Windows XP, and have a computer that doesn’t have a hard drive light, you need this cool little utility. It works only with Windows XP, though, so you’re SOL if you’re using 2k, NT or any of the 9x series.

There’s also another utility from the same people that shows you how much HD is being accessed and when its being updated.

Cool handy utilities to have around. Enjoy!
